ABOUT THE
CHORALE
The
Robert Dale Chorale is the premier professional chamber choir in
Northeastern Pennsylvania. Founded in 1977 by
Robert Dale
Herrema, the group has received critical acclaim
for stylistic performances of works ranging from Renaissance
to Contemporary.
They have appeared on local television, on WVIA-FM Concert Hall, and on
many regional performing arts series.
Singers are auditioned every year to
continue the tradition of excellence to which the Chorale is dedicated.
For two decades, the RDC has hosted the
only regional
Annual Bach Festival, treating local audiences to two days of world class performances
of organ, chamber and choral music.
The Chorale also co-sponsors with WVIA-FM its
Annual
Messiah Sing-Along which has become a traditional holiday favorite in the area
for the past 21 years. A
Fall Concert and a Holiday Concert round out the standard
Concert
Series, with an occasional Spring Concert.
With the exception of the Bach Festival and Messiah Sing-Along, RDC concerts are normally
presented in two different venues to reach audiences in both Lackawanna
and Luzerne Counties. |

Several new choral works
by American composers have been commissioned and premiered by the Chorale,
most recently Hymn to Saint Cecilia by Richard Wargo and Psalms for Barbara by Alice Parker. The Chorale has consistently been awarded grants from Pennsylvania
Partners in the Arts (administered locally by the Scranton
Area Foundation), the Lackawanna County Council on the Arts,
and MetLife Foundation.
In addition to its annual concert series, the RDC serves the region
through
public appearances and performances in nursing homes and various other community
settings.
